Gemma was going to spend her summer with her boyfriend Teddy, volunteering in Colombia, but when he breaks up with her in Target while they are buying supplies for the trip, she finds herself at loose ends for the summer. Her mother is going to Scotland, so Gemma ends up taking the train to the Hamptons to stay with her father while he is working on a movie script. One her way, she meets a cute boy named Josh. The problem? He is the brother of Hallie, whose mother dated her father just as Gemma's parents were divorcing. Gemma was very mean to Hallie, but not to worry-- recent surgery for a broken nose and a post breakup makeover has rendered Gemma unrecognizable, and since Josh mistakenly thought her name was Sophie because she was carrying her best friend's mug, no one is the wiser. Gemma, Hallie, and Josh hang out, and have an interesting summer. At some point, we know, things will blow up, but exactly how will that happen? More complications will arise in book two, Revenge, Ice Cream, and Other Things Best Served Cold. (NO date available.)
Strengths: This was a great summer read, and I liked that it was a romance that was appropriately middle grade AND that it included girl drama. Definitely a good combination, so I will definitely buy a copy.
Weaknesses:  There were two fake names, one for Facebook, and one for Doctor Who (was it Professor Which?), and these were nails on a chalk board in an otherwise good book. I saw some of the plot twists coming, but I don't know that students will.
